Do I Really Need Wedding Videography? 4 reasons to really consider it!

Do I really need wedding videography?  I get asked this all the time by brides and grooms who are weighing their options against their budget.

Below are some facts and thoughts to help you decide what’s the best way to capture your special day.

1. Wedding Videography captures the changing detail of actions and reactions: how his face lights up as your groom sees you for the first time; your first dance together as husband and wife; the tossing of the bouquet and the scramble to catch it.  All these moments took place with a richness of movement and detail that should be captured as such.

2. Wedding  Videography captures sound.  Many important words are spoken on your wedding day: the vows you exchange with one another;  the speeches from your bridal party; the toasts and prayers given in your honor.  A video captures all these loving thoughts, word for word and all the reactions you, your fiancé and your family and friends experience.

3. Wedding videography includes everybody.  While most photography is focused on capturing the newly weds in poses and a list of family and honored guests, videography captures everyone.   A good videographer will circulate and get all guests on camera during the many events of the day.  Videographers also offer a time for your family and friends to get on camera and share messages of congratulations.  It’s a great way to make sure you and all your guests are recorded.  Plus the well wishes are a nice surprise.

4. “Oh, I have a friend who has a video camera; they are going to film our wedding.”  This is an option but carefully think about what you are asking of your friend.  Will they set aside the enjoyment of your wedding day to be on camera duty.  Getting the right coverage means they are not part the fun and action.  What is their actual  skill level?  Have you seen a family video they have shot?  Does their camera have good audio?  Too often brides have really high expectations that exceed the skill level and equipment of the friend they have asked to film their wedding day.  Is your friendship worth ruining over a poorly shot wedding video.
